As you may be aware the Heron Practice is a teaching practice.
We are pleased to welcome Dr Amy Short who will be starting a twelve month "in service" placement with us on 10th August.

Telephone Consultations
Patients who want to discuss health problems with a doctor and feel they don't need to be examined can request a telephone consultation; these can be booked up to 1 week in advance. 
Please note these appointments are NOT for general information/advice that can be obtained via NHS Choices or NHS Direct.

Out of Hours Information

If your condition is urgent and cannot wait until the surgery is next open telephone
CAMIDOC ("Out of Hours" GP Service) on 020 7388 5800. 

This service is available from 6.30pm until 8.00am, Monday to Friday and all day weekends and Bank Holidays. 
 
You will be asked to leave your details by a CAMIDOC receptionist. A GP will then ring you back and assess you over the telephone; they may give advice or arrange for you to attend the out of hours GP surgery or visit you at home if necessary.

CAMIDOC offers a free translation and interpreting service.

If you are not sure what to do telephone NHS Direct on 0845 46 47. This is a 24-hour confidential medical advice service run by nurse advisers. 
 
The web site, http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/  useful information on illnesses and treatments and can help you locate your nearest dentist, pharmacist, hospital etc. 

NHS Direct offers a free translation and interpreting service

Your local pharmacy (chemist)
 
Pharmacists are able to provide advice and treatment for several conditions. 

Our reception staff can refer you to register for the “pharmacy first” scheme for treatment of acute short-term conditions. Medicines are free if you are exempt from prescription charges. 
For Hackney residents, pharmacies displaying the “CHYPS” symbol provide the “morning after pill” free of charge to those under 20 years of age.
